D-DAY COMMEMORATIVE CONVOY

The event will start at Southwick House on 25th June 2022 near Fareham in Hampshire and run to Milestones Museum in Basingstoke, a distance of about 37 miles.  The object of the event is to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Riders’ Branch.

In order to avoid too much difficulty with traffic regulations the convoy may have to be restricted to 60 vehicles, which should be of Second World War vintage and of all allied nations.

Entry forms with full details will be sent nearer the time.

Area Report August 2020

RALLY ISSUE

What an extraordinarily frustrating period!  At time of writing many of us would have been in Normandy and I know the local economy has been knocked to blazes by our absence.  The little town of Arromanches for example relies on tourism for 70% of its annual income.

So many events cancelled or postponed, military or otherwise, then the postponed date gets cancelled as well!  By the time this issue hits the doormat in August we might have been allowed to attend a few low-key events held within the parameters of the restrictions, but as each day passes this is becoming a very remote possibility.  Looks like we will have to knock the whole year on the head and start again in 2021.

Several of our members went to a great deal of effort to prepare excellent home displays for VE day, despite not being allowed to party!  Regrettably I can only include six photos with this report, so we will try and set up a dedicated page on our SHMVT website to show off these displays.
